Great Pet News! Colonel Meow and Other Animal Happenings…

Who won the week in Great Pet News? That would have to be Colonel Meow–who also won the honor of being The Cat with the Longest Fur on Earth. That’s as officially declared by the folks at Guinness World Records. The proud kitty is a Himalayan-Persian mix who’s had his coat measured at an amazing nine inches. We’re proud to say that he’s American-made, too–being the pet of lucky Los Angeles humans Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario. But that’s not the only big pet story that happened this week…

Here’s a cockatoo who became a viral sensation thanks to his ability to bust out some dance moves. Interestingly enough, this is one dancer who’s getting famous for being unoriginal. He’s mimicking a customer at a pet store. That’s one sure way to get attention and a new home…

Some innocent fish made the news after a man in Australia was caught trying to smuggle them in a plastic bag hidden in his pants. Fortunately, some sharp-eyed customs officials noticed that the guy had water seeping out of his pants. An unusual amount of water. If you know what we mean. Anyway, the seven cichlids were saved from being smuggled into New Zealand–and who knows where from there. It’s funny, but also serious. Fish can carry diseases and cause real problems with native species. That’s why we don’t smuggle fish in our pants.

In other disturbing news, a vicious kitten attacked a pit bull this week. The shocking video has attracted all kinds of people, but we just shudder at the idea of posting the horrible carnage. Well, okay. If you have to look…

Meanwhile, other daring kitties found themselves trapped at a New York City subway platform. It was a real rescue mission, too. Power to a couple of subway lines was cut for over an hour as officials moved in to save the young trespassers. They were safely confined to a cage before being taken off the rails. You can read about it here with some fun pictures–but we need to warn you that the article has a quote from a disgruntled cat hater.

And that’s almost all the cute news that we can handle this week–even if the news feed has been lacking in important dog developments. They were simply outclassed by the cats this week. Just check out this breaking video that reveals how some cats like to be massaged…
